Salba

What Exactly is Salba? That was my question when my daughter first told me about it. "It must be some kind of new discovery"-I thought. Thanks to Google, in a few seconds the mystery was solved. As it turned out the discovery was not altogether new.

Salba is a variety of ancient plants that belong to a mint family called Chia which has been known about - and used - for centuries. Salba is an incredibly nutrient-dense super-grain. It contains six times more calcium than whole milk, three times more iron than spinach, and fifteen times more magnesium than broccoli. It is all-natural, has no trans-fat, is gluten free, has almost no carbohydrates, and is non-GMO.

It is the only grain for which there are Health and Medical Claims.

It is the only grain for which there are acute and long term human nutritional studies.

It is the only grain that holds a medical patent. (60-274.256)

Because of its nutritional value Salba can be used as a perfect functional food in weight management programs, Sports, Exercises and other Physical Activities and in improving many health conditions. Salba can be used as an On-the-Go Meal and it is safe to use for people of all ages.

When I went to buy it I had a choice of picking between the whole grain and the ground variety. The whole grain looks a little bit like poppy seeds and is the color of dried yeast. I chose the variety that has been ground. It looks and tastes like crushed flax seeds and you can sprinkle it on any food you eat, giving yourself nutritional boost.
