Rheumatoid arthritis is an inflammatory disease that causes pain, swelling, stiffness, and loss of function in the joints. It is different from other kinds of arthritis. Typically, people with this condition generally feel fatigued, tired and even feverish.

According to the National Institute of Health, "Scientists estimate that about 2.1 million people, or between 0.5 and 1 percent of the U.S. adult population, have rheumatoid arthritis."

Herbal treatments for rheumatoid arthritis:

  • Before taking a bath pour 5 L of boiling water over 300 g of fern herb or chamomile flowers. Let stand for 2 hours, filter and add to bath water. Take a bath for 15-20 min. every other day. Repeat the procedure 10-15 times.

  • Mix together equal parts of crushed elder flowers, nettle leaves, parsley root and willow bark. Take 1tbsp of mix and boil for 5 min at low heat in 1 cup of water. Let stand until cools down, filter and drink 2 cups a day.

  • Mash 4 lemons with skin and 4 garlic heads until they turn into a paste, pour over 1 L of boiling water and let stand for 24 hours. Filter and take 50 ml 3 times a day before meal.

  • Put 1 tbsp of dried pansy in 1 cup of boiling water. Wrap it up and let stand for 2 hours, then filter. Take 1 tbsp 3 times a day.

  • Place 1 tbsp of chickweed in 1 cup of boiling water. Wrap up, let stand for 4 hours then filter. Take 1/4 of cup 4 times a day.

Compresses to relieve pain and discomfort at rheumatoid arthritis:

  • Combine 1 part of crushed aloe leaves, 2 parts of honey and 3 parts of vodka. Wet a piece of white cloth in the mix and wrap it around the spot that hurts. Cover with plastic wrap and warm dry towel or shawl.

  • Crush white chalk to a powder and combine with plane yogurt to make a paste. Apply paste to a desired spot, cover with plastic, bandage, and leave for the night.

  • Place 6-7 banana peels in 1/2 L of vodka. Keep in a dark place for 12 days. Rub over affected area to ease a pain.

  • Mix 200 g of fresh milk with 1 tbsp of aqua ammonia in a clean dark bottle. Close the lid, shake bottle well and keep for 24 hours, shaking from time to time. Place opened bottle in hot water, warm it up and smear on inflamed joints( do not rub in). This remedy soothes the pain.

The NIH also states that, "Doctors use a variety of approaches to treat rheumatoid arthritis. These are used in different combinations and at different times during the course of the disease and are chosen according to the patient's individual situation. No matter what treatment the doctor and patient choose, however, the goals are the same: to relieve pain, reduce inflammation, slow down or stop joint damage, and improve the person's sense of well-being and ability to function."

As with all medical care, consult your doctor before using any home remedies, especially when other prescription medications are involved.
