The pancreas is a gland behind your stomach and in front of your spine. It produces digestive enzymes which help break down food. This helps control blood sugar levels. If the pancreas doesn't do it's job, a person could actually starve because nutrients in food cannot be broken down.
There are a number of different problems that can occur with the pancreas, one of which is diabetes. Also, sometimes the digestive enzymes attack the pancreas. If this is severe enough, toxins can enter the bloodstream and attack other organs, too.
