Why Choose a Holistic Veterinarian? Will Your Pet Get Better Care? Why choose a holistic veterinarian over a traditional one? For those of you new to holistic medicine, let me say that a holistic veterinarian treats your whole pet, not just the physical body; hence, the word holistic. That may sound like a lot of mumbo jumbo, but in reality, it's not. Science has proven that energy fields surround every living thing, and our beloved animals are no different. In the same manner, when dis-ease shows up in your animal, or yourself for that matter, holistic medicine helps to restore that imbalance with the use of various modalities, some of which I will list below. Dis-ease is a body that is not at ease. A cure can never be found in the physical body alone. Five Holistic Modalities for Treating Your Pet
You might think this is extravagant for "a dog" or "a cat," but let me assure you, they, too, are much more than their physical bodies. What shows up as disease in their bodies is just an extension of an imbalance that you can't see right away. We know now, thanks to science, that energy is neither created nor destroyed. Everything is energy - including our beloved pets. We must treat the whole animal. For example, look at a spider's intricate web; if you disturb the web, even by removing one small thread, you've disturbed its entire "eco-system," so to speak. There is an interdependence that exists inside and outside of the body. Same goes for your animal. There's another "modality" to consider when caring for your four-legged friend. It's the most crucial. And that modality is love. Because without it, any treatment, whether holistic or western, will not be as effective. When healing the body of a person or an animal, when done from the inside out, allows for a gentler healing process. And love facilitates that process! I recently heard an amazing story from a holistic veterinarian where a family dog was chronically ill. No amount of medicine was able to cure the animal. The husband was heartbroken, because he deeply loved his dog. The wife, on the other hand, was jealous of their relationship and secretly despised the animal. However, the wife was the one who fed the dog, walked the dog… while doing so with resentment. And the dog was absorbing that energy. When a holistic vet realized the environment the dog was subjected to, she brought it to the couples attention. With help, the couple transformed their relationship and "miraculously" the beloved animal healed. When we take the time to be aware of our animals and the effect we have on them, change happens and healing occurs. With traditional medicine, the doctor will give a pill or a shot, instead of looking for the underlying cause. Unfortunately, only the symptoms are treated. Holistic vets treat the underlying cause. And fortunately, we can now photograph and electronically measure this energy. There is a time and a place for medicine; if a disease has gotten out of hand, of course, you have to do whatever is going to give immediate assistance to alleviate pain or even save a life. The key is to not let something get critical. We can help the body prevent illness by taking good care of our animals now. And while we're at it, we can take care of ourselves, too.
