The major symptom of bronchitis is that a person has a persistent cough and this is accompanied by phlegm or mucous. Two other common symptoms are wheezing and lung congestion.

A good reason to consider using an herbal remedy for bronchitis instead of medication prescribed by a doctor is that you do not wish you or your loved one to be over-medicated. Today many medical doctors are in a battle with the consumer to limit the use of antibiotics to only those times when it is absolutely necessary. No wonder that with over-prescribing antibiotics we have heralded in the age of the super bacteria!

Most herbs that are used to treat bronchitis are used solely for their ability to aid the body in forcing the phlegm out. Additionally, some antibiotic herbs may be used as sometimes an infection will occur simultaneously with the bronchitis.

Some of the more common herbs that are used to fight infection and that most of us are aware of are Goldenseal, Garlic and Echinacea. They provide an excellent herbal remedy for bronchitis for this reason. These are all strong natural antibiotics, and they can be used either to keep an infection from occurring/spreading when one has bronchitis or these herbs may be used to treat an already existing bronchial infection.
