Dry Lips

Natural Remedies and Herbal Treatments

Lips are very sensitive. If you have dry lips, you understand completely. The condition of your lips is influenced by external factors (sun, wind, cold), as well as by lack of such vitamins as A, C, and B. Lips age like any other part of our body. They lose their natural color and moisture, fine lines appear around a mouth and, sadly, they become thinner. And who wouldn't want to have a cushy lips? While most people associate lip care problems with cold and winter air, it's just as much a problem in the summertime when the sun can burn the lips making them very uncomfortable.

To keep lips look young as long as possible we need to take good care of them and this includes drinking plenty of water so your body can be hydrated on the inside as well as the outside.

Natural Remedies for Dry Lips:

  • • Apply small amount of cream on your lips and lightly tap them with the tips of your fingers.

  • • Every evening after brushing your teeth massage the gums and lips lightly with the clean tooth-brush. This method of lip care keeps lips naturally fresh by improving blood circulation.

  • • To prevent lips from cracking and to treat cracks that already exist apply fresh butter on your lips.

  • • Mix 1 tsp of unsalted cottage cheese with 1 tsp of carrot juice. Apply on lips and keep for 5-10 min. The mask softens dry lips.

  • • Before going to bed smear honey, cucumber or carrot juice on your lips. Keep overnight.

  • • A mix of mashed apple and butter brings good results in treating dry, cracked lips.

  • • 2 tbsp of flax seeds boil in 2 cups of water until they become soft and mushy. Apply on lips at night.

  • • Lip balm-mix together 1 tbsp of olive oil, 1 tsp of glycerin and 2 tbsp of honey. Apply to chapped lips as often as needed.

Taking care of your lips is very important. No one wants to have dry, cracked lips, so use the natural treatments listed above to ensure your lips are as soft as they can be. If you happen to try the above treatments and they offer you no long-term relief, you should see a dermatologist as you may have a more serious skin condition. There is also a possibility that a prescription medication that you are taking is causing you to have chapped lips.
