Allergy Cough

Suffering from an allergy cough that persists no matter what? There are a variety of substances that can cause allergy-triggered coughs. The most obvious of these is pollen, which plagues thousands of people throughout the United States. Others culprits of allergy-related coughs include dust, animal dander, and mold.

Before running out to the store and buying a cough suppressant, it's important to remember that coughing is your body's way of clearing your lungs and respiratory tract -- and ultimately we all really do want a clear pair of lungs and respiratory tract. So you may not want to stop that cough right away. You can purchase packaged drinks that contain calming ingredients such as chamomile and honey, which can sometimes be effective in suppressing your cough, but they're unlikely to stop it altogether. If you find adequate relief at this stage and a balance between comfort and the important function of clearing your body of the allergen(s).

The thing to remember about both over-the-counter and prescription cough suppressants is that they cure nothing. What they do is suppress your system from being able to rid itself of the cause of your cough. So it makes sense to try one of the soothing herbal agents found in nature first. If chamomile and honey aren't cutting it, try an herbal cough suppressant. These bottled cough syrups look similar to their synthetic counterparts but they are made of all natural ingredients and can often provide all the help your body needs. Any health food store is likely to have these natural cough syrups.

After being diagnosed with an allergy -- either by your M.D., an allergy speicalist, a homeopath, or through your own trial and error, you will probably know what it is that triggers a reaction. You can now take steps to avoid contact with whatever is causing your symptoms. If you have an allergy like pollen which probably can't be avoided, you can take an allergy medication before you step outside. Anyone who has had a persistent cough knows that one of the best steps to take when you have a cough is to rest and let your amazing immune system work for you while you sleep. If you must exert your lungs rigorously, consider taking a nap when you come home.

You can give your body the necessary medication but also the needed time it needs to recover so that you will feel healthy again.
